Katina Ceremony 2025

When the rainy season arrives, monks observe a three-month retreat called Vas. What began as a practical pause in travel evolved into a spiritually significant period devoted to meditation, Dhamma study, and communal discipline.

At its conclusion, the Katina pinkama is held, a special robe-offering ceremony accompanied by an overnight pirith chanting. Lay devotees offer new robes and requisites to the monks, expressing gratitude, strengthening bonds with the Sangha, and honouring the monastics’ spiritual dedication.

In 2025, the Katina Ceremony was observed on 1st November, bringing together monks and devotees in a shared celebration of devotion, generosity, and the enduring values of the Buddhist tradition.
